“The population of Upper Silesia is not German in origin. Nordic traits are often found here, but this is the heritage of the ancient Slavs, not the Germans. Hitler on Mein Kampf and the question of reworking its ideas

In his interview with French journalist Bertrand de Jouvenel on February 28, 1936, published in the French newspaper Le Paris Midi and duplicated in Deutsches Nachrichtenbüro.

Bertrand de Jouvenel: “We French read your declarations of peace with joy. However, we are still concerned about other, less hopeful things. For example, in your book 'Mein Kampf' you said very unpleasant things about France. This book is now seen in Germany as a kind of political bible. It is being sold, and yet no editions have undergone any correction with regard to the places where things are said about France.”

Hitler: “When I wrote this book, I was in prison. It was the time when French troops occupied the Ruhr area. It was the moment of highest tension between our two countries. We were enemies, and I was supporting my country, as I should be, against your country, just as I had stood in the trenches for four and a half years for my fatherland! I would have despised myself if I had not been first and foremost a German at the time of the conflict. But today there are no more grounds for disagreement. You want me to correct my book, as a writer who produces revised editions of his works does. But I'm not a writer. I'm a politician. I carry my corrections through a foreign policy that seeks an understanding with France. If I succeed in achieving rapprochement between Germany and France, it will be a worthy correction. I write my corrections in the great book of history!”

The Russian genius would have equally intervened, I am sure, in a considerable manner in the refinement of an excessively German Europe, where two hundred million Slavs of the east would be integrated. Four years of living mixed with the Russian people made it esteemed, admired and loved by all the Soviet combatants. The misfortune is that for half a century the virtues of these two hundred million good people have been choked — and risk being that for a long time yet under the enormous iron slab of the regime of the Soviets.
These people are peaceful, intelligent and artistic, possessing also the gift of mathematics, which is not a contradiction: the law of numbers is the basis of all the arts.


While entering Russia the Germans, who had been subjected to a really summary Nazi indoctrination, imagined that the only valuable beings of the universe were the Aryans, who, necessarily, had to be blond giants, stocky like organ stops, whiter than tea, with blue eyes like the Tyrolian skies in August.


It was rather comical, for Hitler was not tall and had chestnut hair. Goebbels had one leg shorter than the other, he was short and dark as a prune. Zep Dietrich had the style of a stocky owner of a Marseilles bar. Bormann was twisted like a retired champion cyclist. Apart from some giants serving apéritifs on the terrace of Berchtesgaden, the big guys with bleached skin, blueberry eyes, were not abundant, one can see, in Hitler’s entourage.


One may imagine the surprise of the Germans, hurtling towards Russia, at meeting only blond men with blue eyes, exact types of perfect Aryans that they had been made to admire exclusively! Blond men! Blond women! And what blonde women! Big farm girls, splendid, strong, with light blue eyes, more natural and healthy that everything that the Hitler Jugend had gathered together. One could not imagine a race more typically Aryan if one adhered to the sacrosanct canons of Hitlerism!


In six months the entire German army had become Russophile. They fraternised everywhere with the peasants. And with the peasant women! As under Napoleon, Europe was made also in the embraces of European women, in this case these beautiful Russian women, built for love and fecundity, and whom one saw, during the retreat, follow desperately in the horror of the worst combats, the Erics, Walters, Karls, Wolfgangs, who had taught them, in the idle hours, that the pleasure of loving has its charm everywhere, even coming from the west.
