Wouldn't doubt if chewing, habits, etc in childhood has an effect on facial development, but the idea author floats the genetics play no role is hard for me to believe.
Primitive tribal people don't have recessed faces, they all have forward growth and strong jaws from chewing. If it was genetic we'd see more recessed hunter gatherers with crooked teeth, small jaws, and impacted wisdom teeth but we don't see this in nature.
