How come people talk to me and expect me to be normal?

At my old job my normie coworker would come up to me and try to talk to me like one of his normie friends even though he knew I was a recluse mute who never even looked him in the eye.

And when I attempted to joke with him, my tone was off so he didn’t even know I was joking and just stared at me kinda weirded out
