“Engineering a mouse's hypothalamus to overproduce uncoupling protein 2 results in the local production of heat in the hypothalamus. Because the hypothalamus is the most thermosensitive region in the mammalian body and provides the majority of the input signal for thermoregulation (26), the local heating results in a lower than normal Tb everywhere else in the body. Those engineered mice also live longer than normal (14), providing evidence of an association between Tb. energetics, and longevity (3)”
