How do I meet new people

Im going to join uni next year and my class is going to be people ive never met before

Im kinda of socially awkward when it comes to meet new people or new friends

What are some good approaches i should use to get in some friend group?

Try to start of the conversation with a joke, for example, if you get in an awkward situation or are just doing something generally with some people around, make a joke about what you're doing, after that you can introduce yourself etc. If you don't want that, there's always the cold approach of "Hi, whats your name... and everything else"
