Im starting to look into hallucinogen drugs, they are so far the most interesting out of the bunch. So bascially is it just a drug that makes you euphoric?

is it good for apetite suppression?

how good does it feel?

are the side effects that bad, from what im seeing it has some serious side effects (nausea, and vomitting)

ahghhhhh its completely illegal in the usa, ig its whatever still will make this thread for those who want to talk about it

Mescaline (3,4,5-trimethoxyphenethylamine) is a naturally occurring classical psychedelic protoalkaloid known for its mind-altering and hallucinogenic effects. It belongs to the phenethylamine chemical class, distinguishing it structurally from tryptamine-based psychedelics like psilocybin or DMT, though it produces similar psychological outcomes. For thousands of years, indigenous cultures have utilized mescaline-containing plants for spiritual, medicinal, and ceremonial purposes. [1, 2, 3]

Natural Sources
  • Peyote Cactus (Lophophora williamsii): A small, spineless cactus native to Mexico and southwestern Texas. The flowering heads, or "buttons," are the primary source.
  • San Pedro Cactus (Echinopsis pachanoi): A fast-growing columnar cactus native to the Andean mountains of South America.
  • Peruvian Torch (Echinopsis peruviana): Another large, ribbed Andean cactus containing notable concentrations of the alkaloid. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Mechanism of Action
Mescaline operates primarily as a serotonin \(5\text{-HT}_{2\text{A}}\) and \(5\text{-HT}_{2\text{C}}\) receptor agonist in the brain. Its hallucinogenic properties are strongly tied to the activation of these cortical serotonin pathways. It also binds to dopamine (D₁/D₂/D₃) and α-adrenergic receptors, contributing to its complex physical and cognitive profile. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Experience and Effects
A typical oral dose ranges from 200 mg to 500 mg. The substance is characterized by a slow onset (2 to 3 hours) and a long duration of action, with experiences lasting anywhere from 10 to 14 hours depending on dosage. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
  • Psychological Effects: Intense visual hallucinations, alterations in the perception of space and time, euphoria, synesthesia, and profound mystical or spiritual experiences. [1, 2, 3]
  • Physical Side Effects: Pronounced nausea and vomiting (especially during the onset phase), pupil dilation, increased heart rate, elevated blood pressure, and sweating. [1, 2, 3]

Legal Status
  • United States: Classified as a Schedule I controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act, making it illegal to manufacture, possess, or distribute. [1, 2]
  • Religious Exemptions: The American Indian Religious Freedom Act provides a specific federal exemption for the sacramental use of peyote by the Native American Church. [1, 2]
  • International: Governed globally under Schedule I of the UN Convention on Psychotropic Substances, though the raw cacti themselves are often unregulated depending on local jurisdictions. [1]

History and Current Research
Mescaline was the first psychedelic compound to be isolated (by Arthur Heffter in 1897) and subsequently synthesized (by Ernst Späth in 1919). It served as the early benchmark for Western scientific investigations into human consciousness. While modern recreational use is rare compared to LSD or psilocybin due to its low potency and scarce natural supply, mescaline is experiencing a resurgence in clinical trials investigating its efficacy for treating psychiatric conditions like depression, anxiety, and alcohol dependence. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

no reason to take mescaline.

psilocybin is most researched and you should only use it for therapeutic purposes or for it's health benefits.

Interesting. I guess I’ll have to make a thread about psilocybin later. Thanks for your insight
