I'm creating a new series where i will talk about addictions, I originally wanted to make this into 1 big thread, but that would take me wayyyy to long so Im going to go into detail to specific topics.

While opioids and "hard drugs" may be dangerous but the number 1 culprit of destroying families and peoples lives is alcohol. Alcohol quietly wrecks millions of lives every single day. The main thing is it is LEGAL, everywhere, and celebrated and social acceptable which is why it spirals into addiction for so many people.

Alcoholism already runs in my family. Literally saw first hand how my uncle ruined his life due to alcohol. I was this close to becoming an alcoholic myself but god saved me. I still drink and do sip whiskey but I drink it for the taste not as a cope. Every time the glass is in my hand, I think of my mom's crying eyes, my dad's disappointment , my gf smile fading and everyone dear to me drifting away, how I could lose it all. That single thought stops me cold and I immediately stop after a glass. Alcoholism is very dangerous. -@Jason Voorhees

SHORT TERM EFFECTS ON YOUR FACE

If you have ever used alcohol before, you should know that it bloats your face, makes it red, and makes your eyes bloodshot; those are only the short-term effects of drinking.

LONG TERM EFFECTS ON YOUR FACE

HOW ALCOHOL AFFECTS TEENS

I’m definitely not proud of this, but I’ve drunk my teenage years away. I capped out at 5'7; who knows, maybe I would’ve grown taller if I had never touched alcohol.

Alcohol suppresses HGH: Growth hormone is released during deep sleep, so you don’t grow as much. It also disrupts your sleep cycles, meaning your sleep quality is going to be absolute trash.

Bone density: Alcohol disrupts calcium and Vitamin D absorption. Drinking while still in puberty could potentially stop your bones from developing fully, a huge looks min right from the start.

Hormone disruption: Alcohol disrupts your hormones by decreasing testosterone production and increasing estrogen production.

RESULTS OF ALCOHOL NORMALIZATION
Alcohol isn't easy to quit just because it's really addictive, it's also because its so fucking normalised
I could rant about the common knowlage shit, but i will just add a few pics i found on .org,

I started drinking when I was 12 and finally quit at 14 after being hospitalized for a severe panic attack, which was caused by anxiety while drunk.

Dude, alcohol genuinely sucks. The positive effect to negative effect ratio is maybe one of the worst you will find with any drug. ALL of the positive effects of alcohol can be achieved with greater salience using other substances. Really the only acceptable excuse to consume alcohol is ignorance. Ignorance of the alternatives. Unless you legitimately enjoy the taste, which I'm almost certain nobody here does, there is literally no reason to ever consume alcohol.

I drink since I was 14. I'm 37. Got wasted last Friday.

Worked as a wine seller so I have an emotional attachement to this subject.

But never, for once, I felt any compulsion to drink. I like drinking. I will still like to drink in the future.

If for some - medical or personal - reason, I should stop drinking, I will take months without a single beer. Never felt as any sort of addiction, like chocolate or masturbation.
I'm really sorry to hear about your family alcohol-related problems. Some say addiction is genetic and if so, maybe I wasn't just touched by it. But aside loving the feeling, loving the beverages (wine is definetely one of my favourite drinks) and loving the culture behind it (partying, entropic, caothic culture of alcohol) I think most things alcohol brings are positive.

And I will stand by that
