INTRODUCTION:
In the guide I will go over what libido is, how it affects relationships, why you might have low libido and how to increase it
WHAT IS LIBIDO?
Libido
/lɪˈbiːdəʊ/
A person's overall sexual drive or desire for sexual activity.
Why libido varies person to person
Hormones & Biology
Androgenic hormones play a major role in activating and maintaining libido in men. Hormones such as prolactin interact with them, influencing sexuality. The role of hormones declines with age causing independance on the brain to inititate arousal.
Cortisol is the physiological response to stress and will inhibit the sexual response. Several researchers have found a pattern of decreasing cortisol during sexual arousal. This study shows that women who showed an increase in cortisol in response to sexual stimuli found difficulty in sexual functioning.
Studies on the role of Oxytocin in erectile function and sexual behavior show that it controls and allows both of these to happen easier in rats and mice.
HOW LIBIDO AFFECTS RELATIONSHIPS
1. 59 percent of women report that low sex drive puts a negative impact on their relationships.
2. 85 percent of women said low sexual desire hurts intimacy levels with a partner.
3. 66 percent of women report that low sexual desire impacts their relationship communication.
Partners with high sex drives who repeatedly experience rejection may develop low self-esteem and resentment toward their partners, while the people with low sex drives may feel guilty, overwhelmed, and pressured. A 2015 study suggests that mismatched sex drives negatively affects sexual and relational satisfaction. These outcomes might be more pronounced in people in long-term relationships. Low sexual satisfaction seems to have a heavy effect on overall relationship satisfaction. While high sexual satisfaction reported by couples contributes to 15–20% of their overall relationship satisfaction, reports of low sexual satisfaction in couples contribute to 50–70% of their overall satisfaction. As you can see, not being able to keep up with your partners sex drive has a much larger, negative effect on the relationship.
WHY YOU MIGHT HAVE LOW LIBIDO
What Can Lower Sex Drive?
Sexual dysfunction is a common side effect of SSRIs and can have significant impact on the person’s quality of life, relationships, mental health, and recovery. In a review of research studies on antidepressants and sexual function concluded that 40% of people taking antidepressants will develop some form of sexual dysfunction. The frequency of sexual side effects was highest for paroxetine (65%), fluvoxamine (59%), sertaline (56%) and fluoxetine (54%).
Lack of aerobic exercise might be holding back your libido as it stands out as a promising and effective non-pharmacological therapy for enhancing erectile function in men.
HOW TO INCREASE SEX DRIVE
Dopamine agonists are used in the management of patients with Parkinson’s disease; other uses include restless legs syndrome and endocrine disorders. Patients treated with dopamine agonists for treatment of Parkinson’s disease, especially at high doses, have been reported as exhibiting signs of increased libido and hypersexuality.
Bupropion is an atypical antidepressant which is often used alongside SSRIs to help treat depression, and it may also help improve reduced sexual desire. From this we can conclude that it could be a good idea to use this off-label to increase sex drive.
Aerobic exercise increases heart rate, which in turn causes the body to produce vasodilators to reduce blood pressure. This causes better circulation which leads to more blood flow to the genitals and makes it easier to become aroused. If your body produces enough of these vasodilators, one of the main vasodilators, nitric oxide, can cause even more increased blood flow to the genitals.
In middle-aged and older men with low libido, TRT for 2 years improved sexual activity and sexual desire.
Take it a step further:
Melanotan II was administered to 20 men with psychogenic and organic ED using a double-blind placebo-controlled crossover design. this led to penile erection in 17 of 20 men. Increased sexual desire was reported after 13/19 (68%) doses of Melanotan II vs 4/21 (19%) of placebo.
Data suggest that kisspeptin administration deactivates regions that are hyperactivated in people with HSDD. Kisspeptin increases activity in parts of the brain involved in emotions, motivation, and reward. This increased activity is associated with feeling less sexual discomfort and alters the processing of facial attractiveness.
Administration of PT-141 to rats and nonhuman primates results in penile erections. Administration of PT-141 to normal men and to patients with erectile dysfunction resulted in a rapid dose-dependent increase in erectile activity. Results suggest that PT-141 holds promise as a new treatment for sexual dysfunction.
PDE5i
(Will help with ED or if you just want more intense erections)
Cialis (tadalafil) good for daily use steadily enhanced erections - lasts for up to 36 hours
Levitra (vardenafil) vardenafil is more potent than viagra (sildenafil), starts working slightly faster and lasts marginally longer
