Important Note: “b-b-but jeremy meeks beat a kid and and then had a kid with some billionaire’s daughter” YES i’m not retarded, this does not apply to top 1% genetic supermodel miracles but rather how important looks are as the average/ good looking above average person
this obviously doesn’t apply to them so don’t come cherrypicking to me using them as proof that looks are everything, and for them looks being enough doesn’t apply to you.
This also doesn’t apply if you’re ugly as everything you’ll say will be perceived differently and no amount of personality can make up for that
Thread song:
Appearance does matter, but probably not for the reasons people think.
It tends to matter most when someone doesn’t really know anything about you yet first impressions:
Meeting someone at a party.
Passing a stranger on the street.
Seeing someone’s dating profile.
In situations like these, appearance can have a bigger impact simply because there isn’t much else to go off of.
But once you actually start talking, things begin to change. People can now form an opinion based on your personality, the way you communicate, your sense of humor, and how you treat them. It’s literally the second thing you notice after meeting someone.
The more someone gets to know you, the less your appearance becomes the main thing shaping how they see you.
Pretty privilege still doesn’t vanish.
Being good looking still gets you a fuck ton of benefits, people are friendlier at first, give you more attention, assume the best about you.
But looks only go so far. If you’re hot and also a nightmare to be around, people notice both. Eventually personality also gets important.
There’s also status but we’ll come to that later
“But I need to be a chad to get a girl who actually loves me
”
If you’re average-looking (which is basically 99% of people in this community), you can still find someone who genuinely loves you.
You don’t really pick who you fall for.
You can know someone for months and not even think they’re particularly good-looking. Then you start talking more, you notice how kind and gentle they are, and all of a sudden they look completely different to you.
That’s why you see really attractive people married to totally normal-looking partners. They didn’t sit there calculating the hottest person they could pull. They just met someone and fell in love.
NOTICE HOW YOU GUYS HATE ON FOIDS BASED ON HOW THEY ACT
There’s another thing people in here really underestimate: STATUS
Picture some random super attractive guy walking around saying “I’m better looking than Brad Pitt.” Most people would just laugh and go “bro you’re good looking but calm down.”
Now picture that exact same guy becomes one of the biggest actors in the world. Suddenly comparing him to Brad Pitt doesn’t sound crazy anymore.
His face didn’t change. The context did.
It works the other way too though. Looks themselves are one of the strongest ways to gain status. Being attractive makes it easier to get attention, grow a following, get into certain circles, or do well in industries that care about appearance.
So looks and status feed into each other. Good looks can help you build status, and having status makes those same looks hit even harder.
So how much do looks actually matter?
A lot.
Good looks can take you pretty far. Better first impressions, more dating options, social advantages, even helps with building status.
And yeah, being really attractive can cover for some personality flaws. That’s literally why people are looksmaxxing, they’re trying to make up for being awkward or low-value. It does work to a point. People will give you more chances, put up with some awkwardness, or overlook certain things at first because they’re attracted to you.
But compensating isn’t the same as replacing.
If you’re a low-value loser at the core, people are still going to clock that, even if you look good.
