Not that common, but I have people in my family with this trait, like my (late) maternal great grandmother.

People always use Ireland as an example of country with many dark haired and blue eyed people, but I still think they are a minority there, most Irish are pale and blue eyed, yes, but their hair is more light or chestnut brown on average, I think, and I also think the same applies to other Germanic populations, white Americans, for example, are mostly of British Isles and German ancestry and dark brown/black hair is not as common as chestnut brown, I think, most who possess this trait there are Italian-Americans, Greek-Americans and Cuban-Americans of mostly Canarian/Spanish stock.

So, in Southern Europe where most people have black/dark brown hair, dark eyes predominate.

In Germanic Europe, light eyes are common, but hair is more brown.
