how to convince ortho to give me palate expander at 17

had braces from 12- 15 but my bites still bad, palates narrow and mid maxilla, so im going to see the ortho again in a couple weeks. Anyone with prior experience know how i can convince them to give me a palate expander (what to say, what sort of ortho to see)? And also should i try to get an upper or lower expander. i need this shit
