i’m 15 and have had braces for 2 years and need to have them for another 2 (frick my ortho tryna be different w appointments every two months) i have an overbite so i got class ii elastics recently, but ive done research and found out they cause downward growth and recession. i’ve been looking at other overbite treatments like a temporary anchorage device or high pull headgear, which one is most ideal and how do i convince my ortho to get it?

i had elastics for my overbite and i didn't get recessed at all, I only benefited from them correcting my bite. I got the elastics when i was 16 as well

would i be able to get different treatment for the sole purpose of preventing downward growth?
You can get all kinds of things if you only desire it, what matters is if you have money to pay for them

did the elastics bring your lower jaw forward? thanks for the info tho

I mean, it's possible but your ortho must approve it first and plan it within your overall treatment. If it isnt clinically justified I dont feel like he would change it, because he prolly doesn't want to compromise the correction of your bite. But I think you could make it happen.

yeah it did, I know you're probably worried about your maxilla becoming recessed but in all honesty your maxilla is going to be pushed back no matter what if your jaw is going forward if you're trying to fix the issue with orthodontics. Mine probably went back a bit but a bit of maxilla recession was nothing compared to being brutally recessed and having to jutt everywhere i went.

I also got class 2 elastics, I've been wearing them for a week and only now am I having a harder time breathing through my nose. I can also feel my tongue sometimes touching the back of my top front teeth or I accidentally bite my tongue. I never had any of these issues before I started wearing my elastics. I have a few friends who also had class II elastics but they didn't wear them as they were experiencing similar problems with breathing and their tongues, and their orthos just took the braces off since they wouldn't wear the elastics. I heard on reddit of someone experiencing a similar problem, and that they just had to continue wearing them and their tongue posture eventually fixed itself. Im probably going to not wear them for a week and see if these issues go away.
When I was initially given my elastics to wear 2 visits ago I ran into the same issue of not feeling like I could continue to properly fit my tongue on my palate, which is an issue I never had before elastics and even during power chains) I told my ortho about this problem and he didn't really give a shit so I decided to stop wearing them and my tongue was able to fit normally again. But after my most recent visit I've been trying to wear them but have experienced nothing but issues.

how many mm are your elastics? just curious because the differences you experience seem significant, i just barely wear my elastics so there isn’t much change plus mine are pretty big.

Mine are 4.8 mm. I’m going to get in touch with my ortho and stop wearing them for a bit to see if my issues still persist, since now I’m more worried about my tongue fitting on my palate like it normally does rather than my overjet.

are you able to look at my post? I have an overbite aswell and i have class two elastics, but i feel like my maxilla is a more pressing issue.

Could you see my post about my ortho ?

Hey I am recessed as well and have been wearing class 2 elastics, recently switched to triangle on my right side and a class 2 triangle mix thing on my left since my teeth are uneven and the left needs to catch up. Later I will be back to class 2 I think. Will it bring my jaw forward and fix recession or will it just camouflage my overbite and cook me.
