{For every story that dominates at the national stage, you always need to ask one simple question: why?}
Why does this particular incident, out of countless tragic events happening every day, get catapulted into the national spotlight, while actual terrorist attacks and even an assassination attempt on a former President barely make a dent in the news cycle?
Once you start asking the right questions, you can begin to understand why certain incidents gain national traction while others fade into obscurity. Use this framework to assess whether a story may be part of a larger narrative being shaped
-
- Does the story gain national attention unusually fast, despite being a local or isolated incident
Karmelo Anthony / Austin Metcalf case β Gained national coverage within days of the arrest.
George Floyd β Sparked global protests almost immediately after the footage went viral.
- Is there an emotionally charged narrative being pushed before all the facts are confirmed?
Michael Brown (Ferguson) β βHands up, donβt shootβ became widespread before full evidence emerged.
George Floyd β Emotions ran high before full autopsy reports or trial proceedings were released.
- Does the story have an overwhelming focus on race, gender, or political identity meant to provoke division?
Jussie Smollett hoax β Framed as a racial and political hate crime.
Kyle Rittenhouse β Media heavily divided the narrative along political and racial lines.
- Are mainstream outlets reporting in unison, often using identical language and framing?
George Floyd / BLM protests β Nearly all outlets framed it as systemic racism without deviation.
"News Stations β Anchors around nearly 200 read an identical script warning about biased and false news
COVID-19 coverage (early 2020) β Uniform messaging across networks: βStay home, stay safe,β etc.
- Are there inconsistencies or missing key facts in the timeline, evidence, or official reports?
Las Vegas shooting (2017) β Many unanswered questions about motive and logistics.
Uvalde school shooting β Timeline and police response details changed multiple times.
- Do public figures or politicians react immediately, before any proper investigation has taken place?
Smollett case β Celebrities and politicians spoke out before the hoax was revealed.
George Floyd β Politicians issued statements and policy proposals within days.
- Is there censorship or suppression of alternative viewpoints, especially on social media?
Hunter Biden laptop story β Suppressed by major platforms in 2020.
COVID lab-leak theory β Initially banned or flagged across platforms.
- Are comments and discussions tightly controlled or artificially amplified to push a certain narrative?
BLM protests vs. Capitol riots β Different moderation/enforcement applied depending on narrative.
Ukraine war β Comments and hashtags controlled, pro-Russian views banned in many cases.
- Does the story conveniently distract from larger national or global events, like terrorism, political scandals, or wars?
Unknown
- Is there a lack of follow up coverage after the initial media storm dies down?
Jessie Smollett β Media went quiet after the hoax was exposed.
- Is there a clear effort to emotionally polarize the public, rather than inform or unify them?
Karmelo Anthony / Austin Metcalf β Media coverage heavily used racial framing, stirring division before the full facts of the case were confirmed.
Kyle Rittenhouse β Public opinion often ignored legal context or self defense laws.
- Is the background of the victim or suspect selectively reported or exaggerated to fit a certain angle?
Media omission of Metcalfβs background β to either humanize or villainize depending on outlet.
Darryl Brooks (Waukesha attacker) β Race and motive were downplayed in initial reporting.
- Do government agencies quickly rule out connections or motives, even when similarities suggest otherwise?
Tesla vehicle explosions β FBI dismissed any coordinated link despite striking similarities and timing.
Las Vegas shooter β FBI quickly ruled out terrorism or any political motive, despite the unusual nature of the attack and the lack of clear motives from the shooter.
- Are any corporate or intelligence ties to the individuals involved or the fundraising efforts overlooked or ignored?
Epstein Case β Epstein's ties to high profile individuals are often downplayed in media coverage despite their influence on the case.
Karmelo Anthony / Austin Metcalf β rapid influx of funds through such a short time frame
- Does the story gain national attention unusually fast, despite being a local or isolated incident
By flooding the public with emotionally charged stories, especially those that exploit race relations, they create conflict, tension, and tribalism. Itβs a classic tactic, Order Through Chaos

And when those elements are injected into a story, itβs never subtle. The media coverage, emotional framing, and public figures all seem to follow the same script: inflame tensions, provoke reactions, and split people into opposing sides.
Instead of uniting around shared values weβre pushed into identity camps Black vs. White, Left vs. Right. Real conversation gets drowned out. Nuance disappears. And then, weβre all reacting instead of thinking.
Because a divided population is easy to control.
