How to fix my wretched sleep cycle

Ive tried going to bed at like 12 but still find it hard to fall asleep. When I put my phone down, I instantly get hit with a wave of like needing to check my phone. I always think "shoot i should check Instagram to see if I got msgs" or "i should check if I have work tmrw" and it always turns into like a 40 minute session. I only go to bed when my eyes start shutting. I wake up at 7 so I barely get enough sleep. Any tips? Anyone been through this?
