How I Fixed My Dry 3B Hair
A month ago, my hair was completely cooked. I would wash it, and after only 2 days it would become dry and frizzy again, and the guides here are useless so here's what helped me fix it.Step 1: Understand Your Hair Porosity(improtant)
First, you need to understand your hair porosity. How to Tell Your Hair Porosity
Low-porosity hair:- Takes a long time to get fully wet.
- Products tend to sit on top of the hair.
- Takes a long time to dry.
- Gets wet very quickly.
- Absorbs products easily.
- Dries quickly and loses moisture fast.
If You Have Low-Porosity Hair
Use:- A lightweight curl cream.
- A leave-in conditioner.
- Mousse.
If You Have High-Porosity Hair
Use:- A leave-in conditioner.
- A curl cream.
- A gel.
Step 2: How Often Should You Wash Your Hair?
Wash your hair once a week.My Wash Day Routine
- Apply a lightweight hair oil 1 hour before showering.
- Double shampoo using a sulfate-free shampoo. you can use a sulfate shampoo if it was good and the formula is good but not the dollar store shampoo
- Apply conditioner and leave it on for 5–10 minutes and detangle use a good brush.
- Put on your clothes (this is important).
- Re-wet your hair with a spray bottle.
- Apply your styling products.
- Let your hair dry completely.
- Use a few drops of oil to break the gel cast and soften your curls.
Step 3: Styling Method
For 3B hair, I found that:- Finger coils
- Brush styling
Most other methods leave me with frizz after 2–3 days.
Step 4: Drying
- Avoid heat whenever possible.
- Don't touch your hair while it's drying.
Step 5: Sleep Routine
Before going to bed:- Wear a bonnet, or
- Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase.
- Use a small amount of lightweight oil if your hair feels dry.
- Refresh your curls with a little water if needed.
What Products Should You Use?
Honestly, most products can work well if they match your hair type and porosity. However, I recommend avoiding:
- Alcohol Denat.
- SD Alcohol
- Heavy oils and butters if they weigh your hair down, such as:
- Shea butter
- Avocado oil
- Aloe vera
- Glycerin
- Panthenol (Vitamin B5)
- Argan oil
- Jojoba oil
this is the only curly 3b hair guide you will need to have above average looking curly hair.
