this is my first guide so it might be kinda bad if i say anything wrong plz correct me.this is basic information and also asking
your orthodontics is always better than getting info from a random guy off org

Overview

This small guide will tell you what orthodontics appliances are good when primarily trying to treat or fix a
overbite (when the lower jaw sits farther back than the upper jaw). or a recessed upper jaw.Orthos
most of the time dont care About your aesthetics

Fixing a recessed lower jaw/overjet

-Typical Way they treat this also known as Camoflouge treatment(THE WRONG WAY)

Most of the time, Orthos will extract your premolars when trying to fix
the lowerjaw.Basically, instead of trying to push the lower jaw Forward,
they will push your maxilla back.Yes this.Aligns your bite.
but the results area more narrow palate and a more pushed back/recessed maxilla.
this is obv bad for aestethics

Elastic bands can be bad and also good

Depending on what kind of Class Elastic bands you have it can be good for your face or bad.
this article explains it well.https://www.drtooth.ca/blog/understanding-orthodontic-elastics-types-and-uses/

UpperJaw(Maxilla) Problems

theres are 2 types of maxilla recession.1 when your maxilla is not wide enough.2 when your maxilla is to much
pushed back.

-MSE/MARPE (Maxilla Widening)
this will widen your maxilla.but also it will give you a gap in your teeth which is unavoidable but you can fix it
easily fix it with braces.it also hurts a lot during the process

Headgear

this will push your upper jaw Forward.besides making you look weird it doesnt have drawbacks

Another bad way is using elastic bands

They will use elastic bands positiond on your braces.this pushes the lower jaw Forward,
and the upper jaw back at the same time.Ive personally asked my orthodontics if it also pushes
the upper jaw back and she said yes.

this information is very basic imo. and I think class 3 rubber bands are mostly beneficial as it fixes underbites if you have one. Not only that but the herbst appliance is literally just rubber bands thats just on until your ortho takes it off so it can be worse than regular rubber bands. id say listen to your orthodontics and not this guy UNLESS you have to get extractions (exctrations will actually ruin your face)

yh it is basic i agree.but wouldnt you say it also pulls the upper jaw back when whilst fixing your bite

yeah thats a good thing. Class 3 bands are only ever used for underbites and unless u want djs or a lefort, then rubber bands are the best option.

But for a overbite where class 2 is typicaly Used. Its Bad bc it pulls upper teeth back which is Bad for looks

My palate is like only slightly narrow should I even bother with expansion

That shit is so expensive in the uk all together with braces shit can easily reach like 10k why would I not just get surgery instead of it

I Dont think there is a surgery for a maxilla expansion only marpe/MSE.

I mean why would I not spend for surgery on something else instead

Do you think it’s even worth it for marpe if Ite only slightly narrow

Do wisdom teeth extractions count? My 2 lower 3rd molars are mesioangular, do I need to take them out? then they'd put me in braces. Will that recess my mandible? I'm 15

forgot to mention extractions

i got some friends who currently have the bands but i dont have the heart to tell them
didnt fall for all this bulshit and asked that nigger to plan a treatment with invisalign and make my bite correct without any extractions , but did IPR for space though

i agree you should probably get a surgery alternative if its cheaper or you got the money.yeah i think its worth it

I have braces and use class II elastics to fix my deep bite, but I also wanna do MARPE and pair it with the reverse facepull headgear since i have a flat looking maxilla. What do I tell my dentist? I just turned 15 btw

for marpe you can just tell em you want marpe but i think you will have a better chance larping problemes like "i cant breath out of my nose".you could just tell em you have a flat maxilla try it.
