Also I noticed that when I used this grip that you’re suggesting the amount of leverage I had decreased making it harder to lift more etc. this may get some time getting used to or I’m just doing it wrong

I had the same probleme when I did psysicall labor for the first timr, with tine they will heal and will not get worse. Use the finger grip and stop chocking the life out of bare, use weight You could efective perform a perfect rep with IT.
