Life is tough. Lot of misinformation, deception, and ignorance. And you know what makes life unnecessarily tough?

BUREAUCRACY

That's why I made this thread. To help you youngsters. If your life ever falls apart, this might be a thread that saves your life, so listen up.

MUST HAVE DOCUMENTS
Never, EVER lose these documents. They are a pain to recover (and, depending on your situation, might not even be recoverable):
- Passport : This is the gold standard. If you don't have one, get one. This is how your federal government identified you. If you never lose this, you'll always be able to recover your identity. If you lose this, it's a pain to get a new one and the most cumbersome document to recover. Keep even expired ones, if possible.
- Car title: If you ever have a car, make sure you have the title on you, physically. It's easy to replace only IF you're in the issued state.


NEVER CHANGE THESE
Never, ever, ever, for never ever, EVER, under ANY circumstances, EVER, change your
- Phone number: Everything digital now adays asks to send you a text message to verify your identity. DO NOT CHANGE YOUR PHONE NUMBER. It can cause huge headaches later.
- Email: not as important as phone number but pretty close. Emails also are now extensively used to confirm your identity. Do NOT ever change your email. Never lose access to it.
- Your mailing address: Ironically this isn't as important as the above 2, but it causes a lot of headaches down the line changing this. So I strong encourage people to avoid changing their mailing address, if possible. Obviously you might have to with this one, but only do so if absolutely necessary.

IMPORTANT BUT DO NOT STRESS
These documents below are not as important as society makes it out because they're relatively easier to replace and aren't really used as proof of identity as often.
- Social Security Number: This one is important to have memorized, especially your last 4, but you rarely need the actual document and its easy to recover compared to a passport.
- ID : Usually Drivers license. You need this to identify yourself on the state level. Technically you can use your passport, but it's better to keep that hidden at home somewhere. It's very easy to recover this if you have your passport... But the opposite is not true
- Car registration and insurance: Very easy to get if you have the title.


If you get anything out of this post it's this, do not prioritize the last category over the first 2. You've been warned.

Hmmm. I was debating internally if this should go in Off Topic or Money Maxxing.

The thing is, money Maxxing is highly bureaucratic, because you're engaging with this fiat system which is tightly controlled by governments. All the money in the world won't do you any good if governments decide you can't prove you are who you say you are, or that it legally belongs to you.

Understanding that the Passport is federal identification, Drivers license is state identification, SSN is tied to your financial account (I believe on the federal level), and recognizing that the phone # and email are the must never lose digitals won't help you make more money, but it'll help you protect money you do earn.

You can get locked out of accounts not prioritizing the right documents and digitals. And some of those might be financial accounts. So that was my justification for putting this in moneymaxxing.

fortunately I am mature enough to understand what you're saying, but I don't think your post is appropriate for looksmaxxing forums considering most ppl here are 14 to 17 years old where this isnt a priority lol, I wouldn't be surprised if half of the people here don't even have a bank account
