Hypergamy is not a real thing, what you are witnessing is simply the affect of genuine sexual attraction being extremely rare in men (due to our sexually selective mating strategy between genders, men want to spread as much as possible, women need to preserve superior genes)

I mean hypergamy is real in the sense of natural selection. But yes, women are biologically designed to be selective. In a state of nature as an unattractive male you would simply just not pass on your genetics. However, now we are no longer working in tribal environments and the dating market is now interconnected and more global than ever before. The selective nature of women is no longer necessary with our societal backbone, rapid phenotype evolution isn't necessary.
