I almost choked to death in my sleep last night. Pretty sure it’s sleep apnea due to recessed jaw / narrow palate

I had the most terrifying experience of my life last night. I woke up gasping for air, completely choking, and feeling like I was literally drowning in my sleep. My heart was racing like crazy and it took me a minute to fully catch my breath.

To be fair, I currently have a brutal cold and my nose is completely blocked, but I know this isn't just a standard cold issue. I’ve been sleeping for over 8+ hours lately and waking up absolutely exhausted, like I haven't slept a single minute.

I have a narrow palate and a recessed jaw, so my airway is already physically compromised. I’m pretty sure the inflammation from the cold just completely shut down the tiny breathing space I have left when I fell asleep. My tongue probably collapsed into my throat and blocked everything.

I was already looking into MARPE (Miniscrew-Assisted Rapid Palatal Expansion) to fix my narrow maxilla, but after last night, this just went from a functional/aesthetic goal to a straight-up survival necessity.

Has anyone here with a recessed jaw/narrow palate experienced this? Did getting MARPE or bimax surgery completely cure your sleep quality? I'm honestly terrified of going to sleep tonight.

Better hope you are in a country with universal healthcare.

You'll get that shit for free.

before you get the treatments to permanently get rid of your sleep apnea, you could get those machines to sleep with, and a appliance that keeps your jaw forward while you sleep.

It happened again.

It happened again.
I am so sorry. What works in the short term for me is no stim usage, put salt in an old nose spray and fill it with water. The reason I make my own salt spray is that the ones in the commercial ones are way too weak. You want to get just bellow where it stings and its bad

I am looking into marpe as well.

But the point is if you wake up any day feeling slightly groggy then it is probably the mild version of the sleep apnea frying your brain

marpe marpe marpe marpe

MARPE, or segmental lefort tbh
