meditation is very hard for me i can barely ever focus while doing it, ive tried it before. Basketball involved a lot of running yes so i think irs good especially because i absolutely love it but i might try really running maybe that would be very helpful tooI can only speak from my personal experience, but running has been significantly better for me than weightlifting and rock climbing in terms of mental health benefits. I think it's because of the sustained difficulty of it, but it might also be because it clears your head and you get to like connect with the world. I don't listen to music or anything when I run. I feel like the real benefits come from running for more than ~35 minutes. That's when it starts to not suck and I can just run indefinitely until my muscles actually just stop working. I guess it's like the runner's high state, but it's not really like being high. But in that state I kind of feel like all your problems melt away.
I don't know where basketball would fall in there, since it does involve a lot of running.
Meditation is also helpful because it allows you to stand apart from your thoughts and also be less reactive to thoughts.
Neither are like quick depression cures, but they would be good habits to develop.
