I've read a lot on the subject. I've also watched videos of people manipulating other people. Pickup artists, cult leaders etc.

Here's my opinions

#1 - This is a skill. It takes thousands of hours of practice to learn, and even then it's only effective on certain people.

Looks - looks is the most important factor of manipulation. You need to look healthy and strong for people to listen to you.

Status - Status is the next most important factor. The more status you build the easier it will be to manipulate people.

Money - No matter how you manipulate people it's going to require resources which require a great deal of money. You generally need to prove to the other person that you are at least upper class, which requires being moderately wealthy.


Lying - Lying is another major piece. Elon musk is a good example of this. He lied about what was possible in self driving cars, with the hardware at the time ten years ago to get investor money. He buys companies and then acts as if he was the founder, or sometimes lies and says he's the founder. He lies about how hard he works and so on.

The most successful pickup artists ALL lie. They tell stories. They lie about not be interested in the girl at first. They lie to get the girl to go somewhere with them. With lying it's simply a question of, what would this person have to believe in order to do what I want them to do.

And that's honestly all there is too it. Lying is a skill that takes practice to get good at (I believe), and looks money and status take time to build. And you need all of them to be successful (for the most part).

I don't manipulate and I'm not good at lying. But there was a time when I researched this stuff heavily because I thought it would help me get a girlfriend.
