Its highly unlikely thats cancer, mouth cancer is extraordinary rare in young people. It could just be an infection that went gangrenous which is still very bad btw you can die if it spreads from the nerves in your brain

Really good you are 17. Mouth cancer is beyond rare bellow 20 specifically, but after 20 it picks up very abruptly. So the lump is exactly on the roof of your mouth? On the hard palate? Is the lump itself squishy/soft, hard like bone, smooth, of the same look and feel of the hard roof
