I'll be moving out on my own later year . It's exciting for me but I know it's going to hit my parents hard. They'll suddenly become empty nesters soon.
A lot of their daily life and identity has been tied to being parents and having me around. When I was abroad, Mom said the house felt really lonely without me there. No more of having me blasting TV at 2 a.m makes it too quiet for her.
Dad already saw this day coming sooner than Mom did. He's set financially and could have retired years ago if he wanted but he kept working so I could get through college comfortably, buy whatever I needed/wanted. I had 0 stress about money. It was just one phone call away.
On top of that he's been putting money aside into investments and accounts so that once I move out. He could time it and they can both retire at the same time. He's built quite a fortune now tbh. Result of smart investments+years of grind+frugal spending.
They've built everything up really well tbh. No need for me to chip in or anything like that. I'm sure they'll find a way to cope with it somehow.
