Imagine being born into a poor Korean household deep in the wastelands of Seoul your parents only one child because they cannot afford another one so you re born the only child and the entire hope of the family, by the time you’re 4 richer kids your age are already enrolled into private preschools that teach them advanced middle school maths, you never had a chance to become a student there because the tuition costs more than your parents combined salary at their shitty wages leave jobs, the only thing you can do is steal a textbook and attempt to teach yourself core concepts that other students your age have already been taught, by the time you are 16 after gruelling years of studying at school going to the free government mandated tutoring lessons enduring countless bullying from your middle class peers you finally take the college entrance exam and you fail. At this point your entire life is over there is no hope that you ever start a business as the government only funds already established ones your only hope is to go into brutal manual labour your own family shuns you as they gave all their responsibility on you getting into a university at this point you finally decide to jump of the Han river before finally jumping off you get a glimpse of the the metropolis that is Seoul realising is was over before you started you read the words that are painted onto the bridge

they read
    • 밥은 먹었어?
      • Translation: Have you eaten yet? [1]
    • 잘 지내지?
      • Translation: How have you been? / How are you doing? [1, 2]
    • 요즘 무슨 일 있어?
      • Translation: Is anything wrong lately?
    • 별일 없었지?
      • Translation: Nothing wrong, right? / Everything's been okay?

These are the final words you will see a mere weak attempt by the government to stop you from committing its too late.
