It's a form of testosterone that is what makes you look male during puberty. If you have no DHT in childhood, you wouldn't begin puberty and look male. After puberty, it loses a lot of it's function, it doesn't make you have stronger bones, it just increases facial hair and body hair while making you go bald (if you have the balding genes).

If you find that your hairline is becoming worse, you should get it checked by a doctor and see if finasteride is the right choice for you.
