I thought most of the times, someone who has gotten experience, renown, skills and connections in a field go on to start and launch their business. Obviously flipping burgers won't mean much, but working in a firm for their security systems or something would teach you the technical AND negotiating skills necessary to further develop an idea into it and then launching it on your own.

Depending on what you can do, you need some connections or advertisement to even reach some clients EVEN with a product. You don't go home and put 1 hour everyday for your business plan, you further your business plan while working at your job.
