Introduction:
IGF-1 or (insulin like growth factor 1) is often takeld about and used as a “muscle building peptide”, while there is evidence of it increasing skeletal muscle tissue via many pathways, increasing muscle satellite cells, increasing NO in your muscles and other anabolic effects. It is also integral to bone development and while having under physiological levels is proven to decrease bone mass and density there isnt much clinical evidence for superphysiological levels increasing bone mass or density. A use of it I haven't heard of at all is for increasing insulin sensitivity which is needed on high dose HGH but also all round good. It is mainly used in literature for IGF-1 deficient kids. But there are many studies showing that it effectively increases insulin sensitivity in HIV. healthy and diabetes type 1 & 2 people. It was proposed as a “cure” to diabetes type 2. Introduction:
Basic background knowledge:
IGF-1 is a peptide hormone in your body which is produced by the liver being stimulated by growth hormone, it is part of a negative feedback loop with GH, inhibiting its production in the anterior pituitary gland. The IGF-1/HGH feedback loop is heavily tied in with insulin, HGH decreasing insulin sensitivity and insulin modulating both HGH and IGF-1's physiological effects. The insulin feedback loop is also extremely pertinent knowledge, (this is lwk year 8 info but whatever). As blood glucose increases from eating, your pancreas produces insulin, which binds to cell surface receptors on muscle, adipose and other tissues, bring GLUT-4 transporters to the cell membrane. These act as bridges for glucose to cross into the cell reducing blood glucose levels, which then tells your pancreas to stop producing insulin and so on and so forth. Your body stores glucose in the liver, so when blood glucose is high your liver secretes glucagon into the blood stream.How it works:
IGF-1 (insulin like growth factor) is called that as it has well, insulin like effects on the body. The way it has these effects are by, increasing glucose uptake into the muscle, directly binding to the insulin recpetor (albeit not as strongly as insulin ofc) and decreasing your livers endogenous glucagon production. There have been studies done in healthy people given 500ug of rIGF-1 which reduced circulating blood glucose and insulin immediately. IGF-1 is also a metabolic regulator promoting fat oxidation and other metabolic processes which are associated with better insulin respone. In another study people with diabetes type 2 were given 100ug of rIGF-1/kg insulin sensitivty increased 3.5x and blood glucose fell significantly. Another in vivo study found in normal healthy subject fasting insulin sensitvity rose 2.5x. How it increases insulin sensitvity mechanistically seems to be unknown, from my reasearch but it definitely does increase it in humans. Conclusion
I would definitely use IGF-1 over something like berberine or metformin as it could definitely have some muscle and/or bone growth promoting effects so why not. I would even use it over GLPs unless your a fat fuck as IGF-1 also showed some lipolitic effects. I’d prolly wouldn’t use IGF-1 LR3 as the binding proteins also seemed to be part of the insulin sensitivity increasing effect so increlex only. It was clinically even suggested to be paired with HGH to mitigate the insulin resistance from HGH therapy on people with HIV.you guys happy now that i used the fancy colours and put some awesome subheadings in?
