Yes, roti is a South Asian type of flatbread. It comes in different variations. You have standard rotis like the one I'm eating, you have paratha, naan and tandoori roti.

The British gained control of South Asia through the East India Company. The Company was at first an economic venture but soon they managed to hold outposts. Afterwards, they managed to conquer a lot of kingdoms and regions overall in South Asia. Once they conquered the Panjab, they conquered all of India, since it was the last region to be taken. It marked the end of the Sikh Empire and the beginning of the British Empire after the East India Company had to hand over India to the British Empire after a major rebellion in 1857. When the British Empire eventually gave back India to the natives in 1947, it was marked as the beginning of the end for the British Empire.
The Indian Panjab was initially a lot larger. There was a tripartition of the state in 1967, leading to two newly-created states of Himachal Pradesh and Haryana, for the Hindi-speaking Panjabis.
