The malocclusion was obvious when he was an infant.

bad luck then

this isn’t the case for 99% of people

still probably could have been saved by sir john mew

now he’ll have to resort to sir paul coceanig
loads of people look like that as infants but usually rich people fix it and poor people can’t, it’s a very simple fix all the way up to being a teenager

Facial recession is almost entirely hereditary. Both parents probably carry recessive alleles. Using an extremely simplified Punnett square, the likelihood of this could be 25%.

Jaw surgery isn't "simple" and even most rich people are not undergoing it.

The correlations between breastfeeding and facial dimensions are weak, at best.

Unlikely.

Gisele's immediate family (namely her father) does not have ideal malocclusion, so she likely carries recessive allele(s).

Most cases of recession are caused by habits. Those habits could have a strong genetic component, but could still be overridden if the right practices we’re ensured in an optimal timeframe. If there indeed is a ‘facial recession’ gene, then it’s akin to a genetic disorder, and thus probably similar in rarity.

Obv there are genes who control your bone development patterns, but I find it unlikely that they would specifically tell your jaws to grow disproportionate to one another in lots of people.

Recessive alleles are the more obvious phenomenon at play.
jaw recession is almost certainly a highly polygenic trait which doesn't follow a simple dominant/recessive inheritance pattern but rather a bell-curve probability distribution based around the genes of the parents

if your parents were gifted in some regard it's not guaranteed you will also be gifted in this area, only much more likely

Yeah, because Chinese people are forward-grown at birth and then end up pan-faced due to "habits." @thecel

Mogger lower thirds aren't as heritable as averageness of the features which is what creates good harmony aka GL parents having GL children

I'm oversimplifying the process for the sake of practical discussion but recessive alleles still factor in to polygenetic inheritance.

I’m not talking abt forward growth per se, but jaw misalignment specifically

I should’ve been more clear tbf

He’s right because by “recession” he means actual recession =/= flat face.

Bollocks. I was a mouth-breather my whole entire life due to having clogged air-ways 24/7. Even went to orthodontist who told me to use dental plates. Manged to lose them in the bathtub after 2 months. Despite that, I still turned out looking like my mother's clone (still a recessed subhuman but not like pic related).

Ppl with gl parents are more likely to be gl, hence the 99%

in his case it seems that a weak mandible is pretty much the only thing holding him back

His mandible is clearly underdeveloped.
Post me a baby with a developed mandible.

You simply can't, the mandible and the rest of the face starts noticeably developing some years later.
