My father always looked great even clean shaven, but once he got a short, somewhat stubble like beard, it really amplified his overall looks with his features.

Really depends on your facial aesthetics and proportions tbh. I don't think I'll ever grow out a beard and keep it long term, but you should always give it a chance at least once to see how you look.
