Much respect, I also remember buying the

Active Plate (Schwarz) when I was 17 and just like you, I did it myself, well not completely, as my brother helped turn the screw every other day, and yes, It did expand my palate and improve my mid face tremendously.​

FYI: I used it for about 5-8 months. I also didn’t only wear it at night like they recommended, I wore it for at least 18 hours a day.
