India had the caste system, but it wasn’t based on white or Middle Eastern ancestry. Instead, it was based on societal functions. The Brahmins were responsible for learning and reading the Vedas and the Upanishads, which were essentially India’s equivalent of the Torah.
The Kshatriyas were the warrior class. In ancient societies, armies needed people with generations of military skill and knowledge, which greatly benefited warfare and defense.
The Vaishyas were the merchant class, responsible for commerce and trade.
The laborers were the Shudras. They often had darker skin because they worked out in the fields all day, but if a Shudra were depigmented, they would look like an average Brahmin, Kshatriya, or Vaishya.
The Brahmins traditionally controlled birth rates to prevent societal decline. Since they were the scholarly and priestly class, they were responsible for setting policies to ensure a stable and well-ordered society.
This is why ancient India wasn’t a complete disaster—well, no civilization in the ancient world was perfect, but compared to others of its time, India was well above average.
The British later portrayed Shudras as inferior due to their darker skin. In reality, they were simply the laboring class. India, being a temperate region with high solar radiation, naturally produced darker-skinned populations. However, in the original system, each class was respected for its function. When populations are low, genetic diversity decreases, reducing the proportion of individuals with extreme traits. When genetic diversity is high, the number of exceptional individuals and those with negative traits both increase.
Obviously, religion is nonsense anyway, but before the British interfered, the caste system made sense. The artisans, craftsmen, and laborers were the Shudras.
