depends on the range. Most studies bear this out because they are only looking at the normal range of variation. So ofc it is better to be a 115 IQ person born to a family that makes 40k over an 85 IQ person born to a family that makes 100k. Once you get to the extremes, the effect of IQ levels off while money/status becomes an even bigger multiplier. So, a 130 IQ person won't have that much more wealth than a 115 IQ person (all things being equal), but being born to a family that makes 400k a year will be a lot more different than a family that makes 100k.

sure, but my broader point is that social class is more important at the extremes, while IQ is more important for small deviations from the average person. Basically, going up one standard deviation in IQ is more valuable than going up one standard deviation in social class. I would rather be from an average family with a top 30% IQ than be from a top 30% family in terms of social class but be average IQ. But once you start getting to the top 5%, top 2% range then you'd much rather be top 2-5% in social class than top 2-5% in IQ

For example. When a centi-millionaire, or billionaire businessman power broker type guy loses a fortune, or his whole fortune; does he lose his NETWORK? His golf buddies who own businesses and know people at certain colleges. His kids will be treated well and taken care of by connections and through favours. The "class" survives even when money dries. That's why class is formed over time. Bloodlines, connections, familiarity, alumni networks, shared high class clubs etc. (country clubs, golf).
