Are two heavy sets till failure better for putting on muscle and getting bigger rather than doing 3 sets?
 
yeah, better recovery, better strength gains and going to true failure does better is better for hypertrophy in my experience
you should look up high intensity low volume training

Better recovery, no real difference in hypertrophy as long as you have a good base
