Is a barber or hairdresser better for medium-length haircuts?

I haven't gotten a haircut since start of November last year, and my hair is starting to mushroom out a bit and completely covers my eyes when falling naturally.

I will ask for them to clean it up a bit, getting some of the bulk removed from the back and sides, and the front taken off to around eyebrow level. Then to texture it with the scissors.

Probably going to just see a barber tomorrow so I don't have to book in and see a hairdresser, as i'm going overseas in a couple days time. But what would your recommendation be?

Little extra:
My barber of 5 years is Indian and has semi-messed me up previously, but that's not the worse part. He's got these employees now who are newbies, and you've got to still pay the same price as if you were seeing the Indian. Going to be sitting in the chair praying that I don't get one of them. Still better than all the other barbers in my area.

Solution
Yea true. Just sucks how you have to book in everywhere in advance. + the price difference
yes, recently i just went to a normal barber and they did it good but yeah, the worst is when they go too short. Others said that latino barbers are the best but might be just a myth

Even pacific islander barbers i've seen do an incredible job - without a course or professional training. I saw this guy in Samoa for $2.50 and it was the best haircut i've ever had. He even pulled out the razor at the end.

And yea like you mentioned, I'd rather they leave it longer than shorter if we could only choose one option.
