First, answer, then click the spoiler.

Many people find this a difficult subject to answer because they know people who repeatedly make poor decisions and act immorally as addicts. When seen in this perspective, it might not seem like an illness because some people view the designation as a justification for inappropriate behavior. Addiction, on the other hand, meets the description of a disease, disease is defined as a dysfunction of an organ in the body.

The brain, more especially the frontal cortex (which controls thought) and the midbrain (which is linked to desire), is the sick organ in addiction. Because of the way these regions interact, diseases affecting the desire center causes cravings for inappropriate items, which can lead to thinking disorders that cause the reasoning half of the brain to make bad decisions. Thus, in my opinion, addiction is a disease that primarily affects the brain and desire.

If your happiness depends on something you lack, causing persistent distress, it indicates addiction, and overcoming it becomes necessary.

it's such a stupid feeling, lmao (knowing you're making the wrong decision, but still making it)

it's not an illness, it's a choice. some people have weak will power, that doesn't absolve them of responsibility over their own actios

there is no such thing as "physical" addiction, it's all psychological.

I blame them when they first started doing it, not when they become addicted.

Addiction is rarely a problem in itself. When I used to drink all the time it wasn't out of some addiction. Drinking genuinely removed the problems I had and helped me calm down I had chronic anxiety and bad thoughts.

The issue with most drugs is they work too well. They give you glimpse of happiness but they don't work forever your brain adapts to them and you end up "addicted". Its not the drugs like most rehab places will tell you the problem started before them

People search for inner serenity and happiness, trying to replace these emotions with alternatives when they can't find them. But selecting a substitute object of want results in a never-ending cycle of disappointment. Addicts never find fulfillment from their addicted activity, therefore they keep going back to it.

The issue is made worse by the drugs fleeting success. Drugs can offer momentary comfort, but they can't completely fulfill the need for peace of mind. Over time, the satisfaction from their addictive substances declines, yet addicts continue to return to them. Thy keep wanting things that don't satisfy them. Every time hoping that this time the comfort will last for ever, but it does not.
