Is it important to wear a retainer

I've worn it every night for 6 months now and it's pissing me off, falling asleep is a chore with this shit in my mouth.

My jew of an orthodontist used scaremongering tricks on me so that I would wear it every day but jfl my mom had had braces for 12 fucking years and never wore any retainer and her teeth are straight.

Is a retainer useful or nah. It's really annoying. Do I seriously have to wear that thing for the rest of my fucking life??? LOL

Also yeah I had braces from 16 to 19 years old and wore the retainer from 19 yo to 19.5yo...

I didnt respond for ages on this forum but its kinda important for me now as I was in the same situation as you half a year ago. I have stopped wearing mine and have noticed a VERY big improvent in my lower third. My orthodontist kept telling me WEAR THEM WEAR THEM, you will have to keep coming back to them and pay $$$. It inhibited my development of my lower third so bad. Stopped wearing them and ascended lower third wise. My advice is to wear them for a while to make sure your teeth dont move. Also its possible to get a small metal thing behind your first teeth 4 so they dont move but your face can get wider. You should ask your orthodontist about that if you don't have that yet.

I'm 18.5 right now but I have super late puberty so my face is still developing. Well yeah my teeth moved a bit but in a positive way, I forgot the term we used here but basicly it got wider, I can see almost all my teeth now. Only the 2 outer teeth of my upper teeth I cant fully see when I smile. I have worn it for I think 2 years but I was younger than you. Braces got out when I was 15.5 I think, stopped at 17.5. I'm now 18.5. But still developed like a 16 years old guy. Well yeah my face is still changing but it got to the point I don't need this forum for my daily dopamine anymore lol.

I stopped wearing my retainer 2 or 3 years after I got my braces off and my teeth have shifted a bit but it's not a big deal. However if I need to wear one after my bsso I will wear it for life because I don't want to risk relapse.

I have braces for about a year and a half and soon I will have to put on the retainer.

I am not convinced because someone said that putting the retainer involves a shortening of the mandible or something like that.

don't go a long time without wearing it because Mike Mew said it'll fuck up your palate. If you have to wear a retainer, wear it everyday so your teeth don't shift.

Stopped wearing mine 1.5 years ago, my teeth ate still perfectly straight. Im 19 now, I only wore them for a year after I was done with braces

If you are confident in your ability to maintain correct tongue posture (just the front half) you can ditch your retainer and they will remain relatively straight, for all intensive purposes they will retain their position but they will slightly shift most likely

If you can’t mew confidently wear it until you can, you must commit to one option or you will bring your teeth out of your gums like a stake being teeter tottered back in forth in the ground and lose stability
