If you had to kill a stranger who was attacking your family to kill your children, you'd be immoral for choosing to not do so. Of course, if you were the stranger trying to kill the children for no apparent reason, you'd be immoral for doing so.

In the grand scheme of things, it probably doesn't matter if you do it or not, since we're just a floating rock in an incomprehensibly vast universe. So, from that perspective it's like a bacteria killing another, I doubt we give a shit...

How you framed it still concedes it's inherently evil or morally wrong, but I don't think we can put a value system on the act itself. Who considers a herbivore killing the plants it eats as evil?
