The most important technologies are in a select few countries, countable on one hand. You would be wrong if you said Europe, because even within Europe only 2 or 3 countries hold technological edge. Compare that to how behind 2nd world or 3rd world countries are. Crime is more about quality of life than about inequality in my opinion. In America crime has decreased since 90s but inequality has not, at least in terms of assets. Same goes for a lot of OECD countries that reported decrease in crime. Of course one can argue that I live a better life than kings of past, but that is not inequality is it ? I would have to compare my life with someone who holds more wealth than me today, in which case I fall seriously short. Right now for example European healthcare seems splendid, except look at the outcomes for the rich getting treatment in America at places most people cant afford. Really, you live in a more inequal era than even your grandfather but you wont notice it. These are just some of the examples in which the upper class holds power of commoners.

Yeah I agree with you, in fact it would be better for everyone if they wisened up and realised that the upper class is playing everyone against each other. I do think that doing something about it is good. My pessimism is more so from what I've seen happen in my country. You see, in one of the states in my country, people were fed up of intellectuals and rich gatekeeping and holding back the common people. So they joined up and formed a Marxist government. Now during the campaigns, it looked real good, the proletariat coming together and establishing a better state. Instead what happened in reality was that the psychos took over and the movement became a plague. They raped women and then said it was justified because they were "bourgeoisie". There have been plenty of non Marxist uprisings too and each time it leads to the dominant group being replaced but the heirarchy itself remains the same. I dont know but looking at the ever steaming AI race, I am not sure things will get better. But we must fight because that is what we can control
