It's wishful thinking, you obviously don't have concrete proof of anything. Its mostly for community, it gives direction..

For me, I don't even want to go to heaven or the benefits of religion. I just want God to destroy this earth, tbh.

I think its more than that. People believe in it so they can go heaven and not hell because hell is described as enternal suffering, who wants to be tormented in pain forever? No one. Like im sure you wouldnt get a knife and stab yourself and endure the pain or anything to extreme pain levels. Its scary, really scary to think about.
