Is starving for 5 days(controlled) better than a long calloric deficit?

I”ve been gaining a bit of waist fat recently while gaining musle mass everywhere else and its been bothering me af.
I once did a 5 day fast with electolytes, ashwagandha to not be an idiot, but idk if this is superior to just cutting due to the cortisol and hormonal effects.
Any advice?

Like 500 calorie deficit with a maintenance day once a week is best for retaining muscle and for avoiding deregulation of thyroid hormones
