Is there ways to change hair type?

I have curly hair like 3b and I think that wavy straight style suits me better because I tend to usually leave it longer that shaggy kinda thing so is there a way to make that wavy permanent or change the hair type for life? I know it's about a curvature in the roots or something like that

herd getting a perm might help it also saw a thread where if u cut ur hair there's a chance it might grow with a diff hair type
