Is not, just dont overtrain your obliques, anyway if you're natural is almost imposible. to get bloated abs from too much muscle.

So it’s ok to train them natty? I will do ab wheel and vacuum. What did you do?

40 bicycle crunches.
1 minute plank.
1 minute side plank (right)
1 minute side plank (left)
80 mountain climbers.
----- pause ------
25 raised knee crunches .
15 jack knife situps.

in this order, 3 times.

is my routine for abs, I practice vacuums sometimes too but it's not much of an exercise.

How many years you been lifting?
I'm a few months into my third year of lifting and third bulk, currently a little chubby might cut soon.

Training my abs completely changed the way they look and even made them appear more symmetrical.

You cant have weak core if you work out it will lead to injuries which are looksmin.

Also your waist wont get noticably bigger

completely retarded idea. show me a dude with narrow hips but big wide waste because of training obliques. or like you don't think massive amounts of steroids and training grew this dude's obliques at all, but you, who is having trouble putting on weight in general, is going to accidentally get your obliques too big for your frame?

possible, just very unlikely.

there's actually a lot of bodybuilders that ruined their look with excess abdominal mass, steve reeves would not have had the look that he did if he didn't neglect the fuck out of his obliques.

i started training mine with weight recently and have already noticed they have gotten blockier and more visible even though I’m on a bulk.

If you’re going to do them make sure you add some type of weight for the exercises you can already do over 20 reps on ie exercises like crunches. But never use weight when training the obliques so you don’t make the waist wider. I just stick to hanging leg raise twists for the obliques - it will develop the obliques just enough but it won’t bulk them up.

My go to exercises are:

Upper abs: Decline weighted crunches/sit-ups and/or cable crunches

Lower abs: hanging leg raises and/or L sit pull-ups

Obliques: hanging leg raise twists

Entire core at once: ab wheel rollouts

For a tighter waist: stomach vacuums

If you would like to train the serratus which I think would be ideal, you can do things like serratus punches or scapular push-ups . Your serratus will be trained already if you do things like overhead press, pullovers, or push-ups but I think it could still use some extra work.

And make sure you don’t overdo the ab training, especially if you decide to use weight. They should grow fast, and the last thing you wanna do is overdevelop them and look like an ogre. What I found is you can kind of treat them as an afterthought and they will still grow as long as you progressive overload.

I’ve heard some people say once you add muscle to the core and ab area you never lose it so be careful.
