This great book called the Red Queen details how monogamous birds are actually cheaters, and the female will usually choose an older male with more security to build her nest and feed her chicks food (the equivalent of a hubby) but whilst he is out all day she will jump next door into the younger stud's nest, have an affair with him if you like, and actually father his children. It's meant to be one of the best methods of getting your genes into the next generation.

By the way, monogamy doesn’t exist in nature.

Lots of species are socially monogamous, often just for one breeding season or for a short time, but some species are socially monogamous for life. I can't think of a single species that is 100% genetically monogamous- socially monogamous species cheat on their partners. Some species cheat a lot, some only occasionally, and it can vary within species by population as well. As for 'divorce', look at species that are monogamous for just a single breeding season. You could say they're serial monogamists.

There are antisemetic birds also
