"In their systematic review, Joss et al. (2010) found that 60 percent may experience relapse in the long-term and other studies put the figure at 100 percent."

That means every 2 is experiencing this. Insane.
Wth i didnt even know that this is possible. I think this is really important.

Can confirm. Had jaw surgery for an underbite and lower jaw relapsed quite a bit. Muscle memory is brutal.

Also;
Jędrzejewski et al.4 reviewed complications associated with orthognathic surgery, and reported that the rate of nerve injury was the highest at 50%, followed by TMD (14%), hemorrhage (9%), hearing problem (7%), infections (7%), and relapse (4%).

Orthodontics, specifically lingual braces. They were able to correct the relapse to a decent degree.

The end result is overall good, but it is an incredible surgery to get exactly right when you think about it. They're aiming for millimeters of accuracy in the face of major swelling, muscle memory, sawed bones, and severed nerves.

So would you get your surgery again if you knew it would relapse?

Yet again proving you have to mew to keep the progress. My orthodontist literally tells me this all the time that you’ll relapse if you don’t adopt correct tongue posture.

I’m laughing cause the jew surgeons don’t tell their patients this because they WANT them to relapse so they have to get surgery again.

Bro i just red 2 min about it. Im no expert. But i guess with bsso its the biggest risk.

What do you think @Sergio-OMS

Bro its nrml to relapse if u dont have correct tongue posture

After surgery bone remodelling can occur very easily even if you are an adult cuz bone get straight cut

So shit tongue posture make you relapse.
But if you adopt good one it wont

The pb is almost all patient with bimax retrusion have sleep apnea so shit tongue posture, thats why they relapse

So if we are healthy without apnea and have good posture we are save?

Without hesitation, yes. It improved my midface, my drooping nose, my breathing, my long chin.
It's just the complications that make it a harrowing journey. I wouldn't undertake it lightly.

There may be something to this although I don't think it's the answer in every case.
My tongue posture was never a factor and my orthodontist and surgeon checked and confirmed this.

thats why im concerned about osteotomies like a chin wing. i feel like your bone will revert back to its genetic blueprint eventually

Fuck it all, seriously

What choice do we have? None, I have to run these risks, at least I'll make sure to have it with one of the best surgeons in the world
Crazy to think I'll have to go through this just because my bone didn't grow NORMALLY

Well you could be one of the 40% who dont relapse. But the other study says 100% relapse. Dk man

It depends on how they define "relapse", just because you had a relapse it doesn't mean you revert back exactly to the point you started with, it just means that the relapse could be about 1-2mm.

Small relapse occurs in almost every jaw surgery.

That's why I am getting implants now instead of cutting and moving bones. I heard that if surgeon puts a screw on the implant, it won't cause troubles from movement.

But Implantants look shit sometimes

Hard to imagine bones will move after being screwed, I guess this confirms Mike mew theory if you don't keep tongue posture your Jaws and mid-face will keep recessing...

your nose tip lies on your upper jaw, when you bring it forward and up you bring the nose tip up as well

any way to get it back without doing an invasive surgery or paying lots of money ? I do have everything chad tier in my side profile, but only my maxila is not chad and coincidence it's linked with my rubber bands and braces and my nose becoming more droppy. Sadly.

probably fillers to the nose tip are the only thing

a non-retarded orthodontist? :what:

It depends on the technique the surgeon uses

Bimax is more stable

Surgeons often overcorret because of this

It depends on the individual case

Relapse doesn’t mean u go back to where u started , it just means u don’t stay where u ended up but ur still better off than before u got it.

Also as far as I've researched make sure that your surgeon will do bone grafts for your empty spaces and make sure he also uses enough screws+ plates for a strong fixation.

It doesn't matter that the bone is screwed and fixed into the new position, the bone will simply move through the screw towards its initial presurgical position so long as muscular pulls and improper oral posture act on it.
