Just got braces off (Important retainer Qs)

I have had my braces on for 5 years and a half
I got them off today and they have asked me to wear top and bottom plastic retainer 24/7 for a year?
I understand the teeth will have a tendency to move back to their original position.
Does anyone have experience in wearing their retainer? Do I really have to wear them all the time?
Does the fact that I have had the braces on for a 5 year period mean that the teeth won't relapse easily?

Wear the retainers for some time bro. Mewing won't save them from relapse especially if teeth tilting had to be done it will 100% relapse. Wear the retainer for a year or two and pray to god Mike Mew that they don't relapse.
