I'd like to ask some questions regarding shaving facial hair. If you have other questions, feel free to ask them. I believe that there can't be proper skinmaxxing without knowing how to properly shave.

First of all, I've been shaving all my life with a cartridge razor and it only now came to me that it is fucking up my skin. There's like 5 blades sliding across my skin at the same time and it shouldn't be this way. I just got a safety razor, which only uses one blade and it should cause little to no irritation. I'll try shaving with it tomorrow and I'll report in here on how it went (and if I ended up cutting myself).

Second, what am I supposed to use to shave? Shaving soap, gel, or cream? Since my skin is sensitive, everything I've read online says that I need to use a shaving gel. I am currently using the Gillette Shaving Gel for Sensitive Skin and I'm not sure how I feel about it. When I have it on my face I feel my face burning and it's the same sensation as when you're eating really minty gum. Is that normal?

Third, should I use a shaving brush? All shaving veterans seem to use it and recommend using one, but I feel like it will get into my pores, cause irritation/inflammation and acne in the end.

For the record, I'm shaving every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

although it'll be harder to see where to shave, u can use Gillette foam instead of gel if the irritation bothers u and u dont really need a brush

I hated shaving. My facial hairs were coarse and thick. It would take me 30-40 minutes to shave everyday. Then I got laser hair removal (8 sessions) on my face. It killed many of the hairs on my face and also reduced the thickness of the hairs. Now I still have hair, but less hair and I dont' have to shave every other day unlike before. Planning to get electrolysis to remove all of my facial hairs.

I don't feel like the gel is irritating me. It definitely has to be the blades of the cartridge razor, although the burning sensation that the gel causes is concerning me.

this. foam is fine if you get used to it.

I've tried foam and it's not for me. I've been using foam for many years before switching to gel, actually The razor doesn't slide across the skin as easily as with gel.

What razor are you using? Slight irritaiton is normal and that 'minty' feeling u describe is the gel, if it's a significant burning sensation then ditch the gel

Gillette Fusion 5. I'll be shaving with a safety razor tomorrow and I'll see how it goes. According to the internet, it will be better for my skin. It's also cheaper to change blades.

single blade safety razor with shaving cream

I use a beard trimmer and shave to 2mm and let it grow for a few days and trim again. I'll probably switch to 1mm just so I don't have to shave as often. My beard hair comes in extremely fast.

Ugh, that's probably the worst thing you can use to shave your face

Guess which one was shaved with a razor and which one with a trimmer

I mean if you only care about the irritation to your skin it shouldn't cause much at all since it doesn't really touch the skin besides the plastic part. You don't even need gel. If you want to beardmax down the line I can see why razors are better.

Should trim your stubble every 3 to 4 days to avoid looking bloated

Just shaved with a safety razor and can't really tell anything from my first time trying it. It took me a while to find the right angle but whenever I had the right angle, the blade slided much smoothly than with a cartridge razor. Everyone says that the angle of the blade should be about 30 degrees, but for me it's something around 20, maybe less. Also, I didn't cut myself, so hooray for me.
