I don’t know if it’s just me but it really feels like looks have become exponentially more important over the last few years.
Looks were always important but now every trend on social media seems to revolve around appearance in some way. The whole Clavicular thing blowing up so fast is a good example of this.
Obviously the algorithms are a big part of it. Platforms push attractive people and visually appealing content way more, so people start increasingly associating looks with value. Then it feeds back into itself because everyone becomes more aware of how they look and how others look.
What I can’t really see is this trend reversing. It does not feel like people are going to suddenly care less about looks. If anything it seems like we are still moving further in that direction.
With biotechnology advancing as well, it makes me wonder how far this goes. If things like better cosmetic procedures or even genetic changes become more accessible, does that just make looks even more important?
Or does it level things out because more people can improve?
Curious if anyone else has been noticing this.
