manual neck resistance basically means you apply pressure with your hands against your own head and the neck has to resist it in different directions

so the idea is it would strengthen the small stabilizing muscles in the neck and over time make the area thicker and more solid visually

it could also improve head posture since a stronger neck might hold a more neutral position instead of the head drifting forward

on top of that it might increase overall stability of the upper body since the neck is basically a support system for the head and works together with shoulders and upper back

and because it is all isometric tension with no momentum it might be a pretty direct way to overload those muscles without any equipment

do you think something like this would actually work in practice for improving neck thickness posture and overall frame or would it just be cope

Less stability = less hypertrophy
Less stability = more CNS strengthening
If you cant do it with plates you can but I dont think it will provide any extra benefit. It might even cause asymmetry. Ive been working on my neck with manual resistance for a long time and there are serious asymmetries but they are only noticeable when you touch them.
